ITIC Circular: Container Weighing - VGM update - July 2016

The amendment to the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS), which requires that all containers loaded onto a ship for export have a verified gross mass (VGM), came into force on 1st July.

ITIC is aware that some ship agents intend to offer container weighing as a new service. ITIC does not consider this service to be a ship agency service, and so outside of existing cover, but nevertheless is able to consider insuring this activity separately. Members in this position are advised to consult their insurance broker or your underwriter at ITIC.
